Musei Civici Monza

The Civic Museums of Monza include the collections of the Civic Art Gallery and the History Museum of the Arengario. They were founded in 1935 and were based on an important core of works from a collection bequeathed to the town in 1923 from the estate of Galbesi Segrè.

Over time the collections have been enriched with different works of art and repertoires from donations and purchases and represent a legacy of the most significant artistic and cultural events held in the town during the 20th century: the Biennals, the ISIA, the "Città di Monza" Painting Award and more recently the Biennale Giovani.

Among the art collections, paintings and sculptures by artists from Monza from the second half of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century are particularly noteworthy of both quality and quantity. Also of great interest is the important collection of 20th-century drawings and graphics, which entered the collections through direct bequests from the artists or their heirs.

The Civic Museums have always held a large collection of antique and modern prints in the print room, the Gabinetto delle Stampe. The current location in via Teodolinda, the result of the redevelopment of a historic building belonging to the Humiliati, a religious Order of Middle Ages, is home to a collection of works emblematic of the history and cultural life of Monza.

A space for temporary exhibitions allows the Museum to focus on and explore things and artists linked to the works of the civic collections.

The Museum also has a conference room and classroom to integrate its cultural events and help it achieve its mission.
