Parco dei Colli Briantei

Features

Between the Valle del Lambro Park and the Molgora Park, the Colli Briantei Park plays a strategic role from a naturalistic point of view. Its planned extension northward (Municipality of Casatenovo in the Province of Lecco) will create an ecological system and corridor that will join the protected areas in the Vimercate territory with the Montevecchia and Curone Park, the Monte Brianza Park and the Monte Barro Park. In this way, a vast protected territory, highly valuable from a naturalistic and historic-landscape point of view, will take form along the central axis of Brianza.

Historic summary

From an orographic point of view, the hills of Brianza look like wide steps, more correctly defined “Pianalti” or also called “High lands” according to a local historic terminology. The southern slopes were cultivated in small plots of land delimited by low dry walls and sharecropped for subsistence farming: vegetable gardens, wheat, potatoes, and vines. On the hills, from top to bottom, these crops were alternated with mulberries for local silk farming.
