Lands of the Elbe

- longobardways.org

In the first macro-area of outstanding landscape value, extended along the central and final part of the Elbe (and that includes the current Länder Niedersachsen, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) began the prehistorical phase of formation and early development the Longobard tribe (1st century BC to 4th century AD). Followed a historic and evolutionary step in which the tribe passed by sedentary farming to nomadic warrior phase.

In this area the Longobards consolidated their hierarchical system, founded - like the other Nordic systems - on the basic core of the Sippe (extended family). This period corresponds to the phase of ethnogenesis of the Gens Langobardorum.
