Villa Cusani Confalonieri

The villa is just behind the provost, in a beautiful and strategic position overlooking the Lambro Valley. Where the villa is now, in the 10th century stood a castle built by the noble "De Carate" family, just as in Costa Lambro stood the "de Aia" castle of the Confalonieri, also feudatories in Agliate. The building was erected in the 17th century at Valerio Confalonieri's request to be used as a countryside residence and Teresa Casati, wife of the Risorgimento patriot Federico Confalonieri, lived there for a long time.

Previously, it had been an antique possession of the "Del Bene" family, which had built a chapel dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene that was enlarged and turned into the present "Gesolo" thanks to the bequest of Brother Gabriele Del Bene, a Jerusalemite monk, prior of the Milanese Domus of Santa Croce and Santa Maria del Tempio. Between the 18th and 19th century the villa developed its present shape, open southwards with an Italian style, 17th-century garden. In recent years, the villa was bought by the Municipality of Carate Brianza and today it hosts the public library named after the historian Germano Nobili, while the spacious park has been opened to the public.
