Lombardia Region, Municipality of Monza, Municipality of Milan, Villa Reale Consortium and Park of Monza and Parco del Valle Lambro have signed in Monza the program for the enhancement of the Royal Villa and the Park of Monza (the largest enclosed Park in Europe, which also includes the prestigious Autodromo). The signature was affixed by the

President of the Lombardia Region, Roberto Maroni, the Vice-President Fabrizio Sala, the mayors of Monza and Milan, Dario Allevi and Giuseppe Sala, the Milan Prefect Luciana Lamorghese and Monza Giovanna Vilasi. "A historic moment for the city: a long-term investment on the green treasure and the urban landscape" declared the Mayor Allevi. The President Maroni reminded the promoter of the Villa Reale, the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, who continued the royal tradition of Monza that goes ascribed to the first Longobard queen, Teodolinda. It was she who chose the city of Monza as her own home, endowing it with the first nucleus of the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, symbol of her will to make the Longobard people adhere to Catholicism: a decisive address for the maturation of the Longobard Culture which - at its peak - it is now recognized as the "primary root of the European Culture" (UNESCO, 2011). The royal tradition of Monza is strengthened by the custody, in the same cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, of the famous Corona Ferrea, the centuries-old symbol of the Kings of Italy.
